Kevin Holland was supposed to fight at UFC Vegas 5. Fate, or circumstance at least, had other ideas.
This past weekend’s downright cursed card had multiple fights fall through, and Holland’s was one of them. That’s after opponent Trevin Giles fainted ahead of the bout. End result, Holland said he’d be willing to fight just about anyone, even suggesting light heavyweight Ed Herman, who also saw his fight Saturday fall through.
With Herman having already left the venue, however, Holland was forced to sit. But not for long. First reported by MMA Junkie, Holland will return this weekend at UFC Vegas 6. There, he’ll take on LFA veteran Joaquin Buckley.
Buckley (10-2) fought just days ago at LFA 87, defeating Jackie Gosh by TKO. That was the second straight win for Buckley, who previously competed for Bellator MMA, where he went 3-2 as a welterweight. Coincidentally, one of Buckley’s two losses in Bellator came to Gosh, so he avenged that this past Friday. The other loss came to top welterweight prospect Logan Storley.
Since exiting Bellator, Buckley has competed at 185lbs.
Holland (17-5) enters the fight off a win over Anthony Hernandez in May. He’s 4-2 in his UFC career to date, which has now hit the two-year mark.
This weekend’s UFC Vegas 6 card is topped by heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Aleksei Oleinik.
