Gerald Meerschaert is an amazing grappler and submission artist. In his entire 11 fight UFC career, he has only gone to decision twice and both were hard-fought split decisions. Another interesting thing about Gerald’s UFC career is that almost all of his finishes have been via different methods. Of his 5 submissions wins the only submission that he has repeated twice is a rear-naked choke; every other submission victory was with a different technique.
Meerschaert is so well rounded in the grappling department and has a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His striking is coming along as well as seen in his fight with Deron Winn. He often uses it to get the fight where he wants it, on the canvas.
Gerald has some sharp techniques at his disposal on the ground and for the first time in his career, at UFC Vegas 5, he will be fighting at light heavyweight — so it’ll be interesting to see how his skill set works when he and his opponent are 20lbs heavier.
