With Saturday night being the final Fight Island card (at least for now) as the UFC returns to Vegas in August, fight fans were treated to a legends fight between Mauricio Shogun Rua and Antonio ‘Lil Nog’ Rogerio Nogueira. Honestly, Fight Island would not have been complete without the last of a dying breed gracing the Octagon. They got just that in the co-main event of UFC Fight Island 3.
The talk of retirement have been swirling all week leading up to this fight, but when the cage locked behind these two legends it was quickly forgotten. The UFC matchmakers were looking to strike gold by pitting these two legends against each other.
That there was no touch of gloves as soon as these two legends met in the center of the Octagon just goes to show how deep this rivalry has gone. But, what a throw back fight for MMA fans! No matter how you see these legend vs. legend fights, these men gave everything one last time to finally end the trilogy. They continued a gritty hard-fought battle right until the final bell. Shogun with the clean sweep of Lil Nog, going three and 0 in the trilogy.
