Ahead of her UFC Fight Island 2 main card flyweight fight with Ariane Lipski, Luana Carolina is feeling “very relaxed.”
Part of that has been the effort put into Fight Island. Increased COVID-19 testing protocols. Personal workout rooms. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” she said during the event’s virtual media day this week, speaking to Cageside Press and other media outlets.
After having her fight against fellow Brazilian Lipski fall apart a couple of times due to the pandemic, Carolina (6-1) says that “it’s a dream come true” to finally be back. “You know, to be here in the midst of all that happening, to be able to to work, to be able to to come back and be able to fight the fight that that I had scheduled, twice already — I’m really happy. And with everything that’s been going on here, this hotel, the whole Yas Island, I’m really happy to be here and to be having the opportunity to fight here.”
Or, as she said later, “it feels amazing, it feels amazing!”
The clearly enthusiastic Carolina said she’s been watching Lipski, a former KSW champ known as “The Violence Queen,” for several years.
“I was always cheering for her since she started showing up, since I always cheer for Brazilian fighters,” explained Carolina. “So I had a lot of time to study her game, to watch all of her fights. And I’m really confident. I had a lot of time to be to prepare, to know what she’s good at. So I really think that my game plan is going to be a great one for this fight.”
One thing Carolina certainly is would be confident. She finished up by stating that “I’m not your basic fighter. I’m very resilient and very aggressive. I’ve been training a lot on my ground game. I’ve been training a lot on my wrestling. And now I feel like I’m a complete fighter. I think everybody who watches me and who knows me are in for a big surprise on Saturday. I’m a different fighter than ever [before], and I’m ready to show who Luana Carolina really is.”
