Makwan Amirkhani picked up a huge submission win over Danny Henry at UFC 251 on the preliminary card.
“Mr. Finland” Makwan Amirkhani was back in action to open the televised preliminary card of UFC 251. Opposite him, at featherweight, Danny Henry, making his first appearance since a loss to Dan Ige over a year ago.
That Ige loss had snapped a five-fight win streak for Scotland’s Henry. Amirkhani for his part was 2-2 across his last four bouts, and coming off a loss to Shane Burgos.
The first round was very much a feeling-out process for the opening minutes before Henry connected with a jumping switch kick to the body. Amirkhani responded with a flying knee that connected, and jumped right into a takedown attempt that was successful. Amirkhani went for a guillotine attempt before transitioning to an anaconda choke. Henry was subsequently rendered unconscious and the fight was over.
The finish was not far off from Amirkhani’s anaconda choke of Chris Fishgold two fights ago at UFC Stockholm. He now boasts eleven finishes by way of submission, including three inside the octagon. Overall, Amirkhani holds a dozen finishes among his sixteen wins.
Official Result: Makwan Amirkhani def. Danny Henry via R1 submission (anaconda choke, 3:15)
