After a thunderous performance last month, UFC flyweight Tyson Nam is getting right back to work.
First reported by MMA Fighting, Nam is expected to face Matt Schnell at a yet-to-be-announced event on September 12.
Nam (19-11-1) was a longtime veteran of the sport prior to finally joining the UFC last year. However, losses in his two first octagon outings had him on the bubble. His job was likely saved, however, with a highlight-reel knockout of kickboxer Zarrukh Adashev at UFC on ESPN 10 last month.
Prior to joining the UFC, Nam had fought for Fight Nights Global, Shooto Brazil, the WSOF, King of the Cage, Elite XC and others.
After his win over Adashev (which was contested at bantamweight), Nam immediately set his sights on Schnell. “I think No. 10 right now is Matt Schnell, so I’m going to put him on blast,” he said in his post-fight interview.
Matt “Danger” Schnell suffered a knockout loss at the hands of Alexandre Pantoja back at UFC Busan in December 2019. That loss snapped a four-fight win streak for the American Top Team representative.
Schnell (14-5) holds notable wins over Louis Smolka and Jordan Espinosa among others. As Nam noted in his callout, Schnell is currently ranked 10th in the flyweight division, where this pairing is expected to take place.
No official event name or numbering has been announced for the UFC’s September 12 card. The event is also expected to feature women’s flyweight stars Andrea “KGB” Lee and Roxanne Modafferi.
