A welterweight affair previously planned for April is back on track for August. Vicente Luque vs. Randy Brown is now set to go down on August 1, after the coronavirus pandemic scuttled plans for their earlier meeting.
MMA Junkie was among the first to report the news. Luque’s management team later confirmed the booking.
In the wake of his original date with Brown being cancelled, Luque (18-7-1) went on to fight Niko Price at UFC 249. A rematch of their 2017 fight, which the Brazilian-American won via submission, Luque won the rematch as well, thanks to a doctor’s stoppage partway through the third and final round. The win saw Luque bounce back from a Fight of the Night loss against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. It also improved his record to 7-1 across his past eight fights.
Brown (12-3) will enter the bout on a two-fight win streak. That includes his most recent outing, a submission win over Warlley Alves last November. A former Ring of Combat welterweight champ, Brown is 6-3 in his UFC career to date.
The UFC’s August 1 event does not yet have an official name, location, or numeric designation. However, it is expected to be headlined by a women’s bantamweight fight between former champion Holly Holm and top contender Irene Aldana.
