Flyweights Molly McCann and Taila Santos are packing their bags and heading for the UFC’s Fight Island.
As first reported by Fighters Only’s Jim Edwards, McCann and Santos have been booked for the UFC Fight Night card on July 15. That event will go down on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi — what the promotion has been calling “Fight Island.”
The UFC has yet to officially confirm the pairing.
McCann (10-2) entered the UFC in 2018 off the strength of a six-fight win streak. Her debut was something of a nightmare, as “Meatball” Molly both missed weight, and found herself submitted by Canada’s Gillian Robertson. However, the Liverpool, England native bounced back soon after. She beat Priscila Cachoeira in March of last year, and followed that up with two more wins. All three have come by unanimous decision.
Two of Molly McCann’s UFC wins have come against Brazilians, in Cachoeira and “Violence Queen” Ariane Lipski. She’ll be facing another Brazilian this July in Taila Santos.
Santos (15-1) earned a shot in the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series two years ago. She lost her debut fight, a split decision, against Mara Romero Borella in February 2019. A follow-up bout last August was cancelled due to injury.
McCann was originally supposed to fight on March’s UFC London card, which was scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic. Santos was expected to face Gillian Robertson later this month, but travel restrictions halted those plans.
