Fresh off a TKO win over Gerald Meerschaert, Ian Heinisch is getting right back to work. And the UFC middleweight will find himself in in a bout he was previously linked to, against Brendan Allen.
Former LFA champion Allen confirmed the news on social media, following an initial report by Combate. The fight is expected to take place on June 27.
“Cats out of the bag now… man I need new pictures lol. On a serious note, it’s no secret that I don’t like [Ian Heinisch] but hats off to the guy for taking a quick turn around and accepting the fight,” Allen wrote on Twitter.
When he meets Heinisch inside the octagon later this month, Allen (14-3) will be looking for revenge. In addition to being offered a bout with Heinisch in the past, Allen is teammates with Meerschaert.
That makes this one just a little bit personal. On Allen’s part, he has not lost since a 2018 fight with Anthony Hernandez in LFA. Since then, he’s gone on a six-fight win streak, with victories over Kevin Holland and Tom Breese under the UFC banner.
Heinisch (14-3) snapped a two-fight skid with his UFC 250 win this past weekend. The fight with Meerschaert nearly didn’t happen, however, thanks to a false positive for COVID-19 experienced by one of his cornermen.
Although UFC President Dana White had suggested that the promotion’s “Fight Island” could be ready by the end of June, it appears the June 27 date will take place in Las Vegas. On Monday, the NSAC approved three Nevada shows for the organization — June 13, 20, and 27.
