The UFC’s June 13 card, expected to be a Fight Night event potentially at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, continues to grow. Karl Roberson and Marvin Vettori will have a chance to settle what has become a grudge match at the event. Julia Avila vs. Karol Rosa has been moved to that date as well, after being scheduled three times previously. And finally, Jordan Espinosa will meet Mark De La Rosa on the card, in a fight first reported by The Schmozone.
Roberson vs. Vettori and Avila vs. Rosa’s rescheduling were first reported by MMA Fighting.
Vettori (14-4-1) and Roberson (9-2) were expected to fight in Jacksonville, Florida on May 13. However, heading into that card (the rebuilt UFC Fight Night 171), Roberson missed weight for the bout. He was then pulled from the card entirely, as a result of non-COVID related medical issues.
That led to an ugly confrontation between the pair in the fighter hotel lobby.
Vettori would later weigh in as an alternate for UFC on ESPN 8, also in Jacksonville, on May 16. However, his services were not required.
The Italian has been outspoken about his struggles to find a fight. Now, he’ll give it another go with Roberson.
Not to be outdone, women’s 135lb’ers Julia Avila (7-1) and Karol Rosa (12-3) have now been booked four times, bordering on Ferguson vs. Khabib levels. The duo were originally set to compete last October in Singapore, but a Rosa knee injury scuttled that. The fight was then rebooked for April 11, and May 2, with both dates winding up cancelled as a result of the coronavirus.
Maybe it’ll be lucky number four.
In a wholly new booking, meanwhile, Mark De La Rosa (11-4) and Jordan Espinosa (14-7) will face off at bantamweight on June 13. De La Rosa will be making the move back to 135lbs, after taking his last two bouts at flyweight. He’s lost three straight, while Espinosa has lost his last two.
