It looks as though the UFC’s June 6 card will in fact be UFC 250, the PPV that was set to transpire this coming weekend in Brazil. And while no location has been set, the event has another fight lined up: Jussier Formiga vs. Alex Perez.
Combate was first to report news of the flyweight match-up.
Any flyweight fight booking is good news for the UFC’s smallest men’s division right now. At UFC Norfolk this past February, the weight class was left in shambles when title contender Deiveson Figueiredo missed weight for his title fight with Joseph Benavidez — then proceeded to knock “Joe B” out.
The championship, which was vacant, remains so. Who fights for it next, whether a rematch, or another option, is still a big question. Jussier Formiga (23-7), whose last win came over Figueiredo, was once close to a title shot. He’s lost his last two fights, however, against Benavidez and Brandon Moreno.
Alex Perez (23-5) also has a loss to Benavidez. Perez, however, has won his last two bouts, most recently submitting Jordan Espinosa this past January at UFC Raleigh.
UFC 250, as noted, takes place June 6, at a location to be determined. While Florida remains a possibility, UFC President Dana White of late has suggested a return to Nevada is in the cards, as early as later this month. Were that to be the case, events would most likely be held at the UFC Apex.
Amanda Nunes vs. Felica Spencer is also expected to feature on the June 6 card.
