As previously reported, the octagon will be heading back to Saskatoon this summer. UFC Saskatoon will take place on June 20, and on Wednesday, the first fights for the card were confirmed. The Star Phoenix was first to report that Gillian Robertson will take on Taila Santos on the card, while Marc-Andre Barriault will face off with Oskar Piechota.
The UFC later confirmed the bookings.
Flyweight Robertson (7-4) is 4-2 inside the octagon to date. Most recently, she had a two-fight win streak snapped by Maycee Barber at UFC Boston. However, prior to that she had won two straight, over Sarah Frota and Veronica Macedo. Impressively, she’s finished her opponents in all four of her UFC bouts. Six of her seven wins overall, in fact, have come via stoppage. Robertson is originally from Niagara Falls, Ontario.
In Saskatoon, she’ll take on Brazilian Taila Santos (15-1). Santos won her way into the UFC on the Contender Series in 2018, but fought just once last year. That fight saw her lose a split decision against Mara Romero Borella.
At middleweight, another Canadian will be in action. Quebec’s Marc-Andre Barriault is a former dual-weight (185lb and 205lb) champion in TKO MMA. He’s had a rough start to his UFC career, going 0-3 to date, but is being given one more look at home on the Saskatoon card.
He’ll take on Poland’s Oskar Piechota (11–3–1), who has also lost three straight. It’s more than likely that this pair is fighting for their spot in the promotion.
UFC Saskatoon will go down at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on June 20, 2020.
