Grant Dawson may have missed weight, but he took care of business at UFC Norfolk. Dawson submitted his short-notice opponent, Darrick Minner, in the second round of the contest.
Karma had already served up Grant Dawson an L heading into UFC Norfolk. Earlier in Fight Week, Dawson had questioned whether short-notice opponent Darrick Minner belonged in the UFC. Scratch that, he didn’t just question that. He declared that Minner did not belong. Then at the UFC Norfolk weigh-in on Friday, Dawson missed weight. Minner, who didn’t have anything close to a full camp, did not. Oops.
Minner dared before the fight for Dawson to shoot on him cause he will tap him. Dawson didn’t shoot but got top position out of a failed guillotine from Minner. Minner did reverse position getting on top and sank in a deep guillotine choke Dawson survived and flipped Minner to his back getting out of danger. Dawson is fighting for every inch on top eventually getting the mount. Dawson ended the round landing ground and pound and attempting an RNC.
Dawson quickly locked up Minner in the start of round two and got Minner to the mat. Dawson took the back and not long after ended the fight with an RNC. That makes it 3-0 in the UFC for the wrestling specialist Dawson. He is on a six-fight win streak dating back to 2016 and finishing five of those opponents.
