Angela Hill continued her winning streak with a unanimous decision victory over Loma Lookboonmee at UFC Auckland.
Win or lose at UFC Auckland on Saturday, Angela Hill was set to make a little bit of history. ‘Overkill’ would be fighting for the sixth time in 12 months, tying her for the UFC’s activity record alongside Sam Alvey and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. Not bad company to keep in the least.
Her opponent in Auckland, New Zealand, Loma Lookboonmee, was coming off a win in her Octagon debut and had also made a bit of history, as the first fighter from Thailand to compete in the UFC.
Angela Hill opened up with constant pressure, putting Loma’s back to the fence and putting her on the back foot. Loma responded with a leg kick, then a step-in right elbow. Hill looked for a combination, and Loma responded with another leg kick. Hill stepped in and tagged Loma with a hard right hand, and then took the fight into the clinch. Loma stepped out and landed a stiff body kick. Loma threw another kick that was caught by Hill, Hill tried to get it into the clinch but was unable to. However, near the end of the round, she was able to get Loma in the clinch and get the big takedown. Hill postured up and landed some big ground and pound, but round one soon came to a close.
Loma tried to get some quick offense off at the beginning of round two, throwing a beautiful front kick that landed. Hill quickly got the fight into the clinch, however, Hill was unable to secure the takedown. Hill landed a stiff jab followed by a check hook and got the fight to the cage once again. Loma once again escaped, and followed up with a nice right hand. Loma gets the trip takedown, and Hill quickly follows-up with an armbar attempt from her back. Loma escaped from the armbar, but Hill followed up with a great triangle. Loma somehow escaped once again, and Hill began throwing elbows off her back. Hill found her way back to the feet and began throwing some nice short right hands. They separated from the clinch, and Loma landed a nice kick to the body. A quick clinch attempt sent us to round three.
Loma opened the round with some more kicks to the legs of Hill. Both spent some time swinging at the air as they struggled to get into their range. Loma got the fight to the clinch, which Hill quickly reversed and put Loma’s back to the fence. Hill looked for the takedown, but Loma escaped and get back to striking distance. Loma dug into the body with some nice punches and Hill dove in on a takedown attempt against the cage. Loma defended the takedown but got stung with a big elbow on the break. They ended the close fight brawling against the fence.
