After a huge upset win in his octagon debut, Canada’s Tristan Connelly returns to lightweight for his sophomore UFC outing.
The man of the hour at UFC Vancouver last September has his next assignment set. Tristan Connelly, who pulled off an upset win over the flashy Michel Pereira on short notice, will take on Brazil’s Alex da Silva next. The fight is expected to take place on April 11, 2020, at an event/location yet to be named.
Brazil’s Combate was first to report the news.
Canada’s ‘Boondock’ (14-6) was a pleasant surprise upon his arrival to the UFC, winning Upset of the Year from several media outlets for his win over Pereira. That victory extended his current win streak to five.
After making his short notice debut at welterweight, Connelly will be dropping back down to his more natural weight class of lightweight against Alex da Silva.
Brazil’s da Silva (21-2) picked up his first win inside the octagon last time out. ‘Leko’ battled to a unanimous decision against Rodrigo Vargas at UFC Uruguay back in August. The win saw him bounce back from a loss in his promotional debut against Alexander Yakovlev last April.
While no date or location have been announced for the April 11, 2020 card, a couple of fights have been reported so far.
Alessio Di Chirico vs. Abu Azaitar
Julia Avila vs. Karol Rosa
Tristan Connelly vs. Alex da Silva
Numerically, the card is expected to serve as UFC Fight Night 172.
