Archuleta vs. Corrales is the latest addition to Bellator 238 later this month.
A pair of 145lb’ers recently bounced from the featherweight grand prix are set to collide at Bellator 238. On Monday, Cageside Press confirmed an early report by EPSN with Bellator officials, which revealed that Henry Corrales would take on Juan Archuleta at the January event. The card will be Bellator’s first show of 2020.
Despite the involvement of two players from the tournament, Bellator has not confirmed whether the bout will be an alternate for the grand prix. It will, however, have both Archuleta and Corrales looking to get back in the win column after their respective win streaks were snapped.
Archuleta (23-2) had an 18-fight win streak snapped when he came up short against champ Patricio Pitbull in the opening round of the grand prix. ‘The Spaniard’ has pulled double-duty during his time in Bellator MMA, fighting at both featherweight and bantamweight. He holds notable wins over ex-bantamweight champ Eduardo Dantas and former UFC fighter Robbie Peralta.
Corrales (17-4), a former King of the Cage bantamweight and featherweight champion, has fought a who’s who of featherweights since joining the organization. Straus, Pitbull, Lahat, Pico, and most recently, Darrion Caldwell in the grand prix. His loss to ex-bantamweight champ Caldwell at Bellator 228 bounced him from the tournament, but prior to that he had won five straight, including wins over Georgi Karakhanyan and Aaron Pico.
Bellator 238 takes place January 25, 2020 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Julia Budd defends the women’s featherweight title against Cris Cyborg in the main event.
