Bantamweights Guido Cannetti and Danaa Batgerel are set to throw down at UFC 248 in Las Vegas this March.
UFC 248 goes down in just over two month’s time, and on Thursday, the PPV event got its latest addition. UFC officials announced via their Spanish-language website that Ultimate Fighter: Latin America veteran Guido Cannetti would take on Mongolian prospect Danaa Batgerel on the card.
‘Ninja’ Cannetti has not fought since a 2018 loss to Marlon Vera. Now 40, the Argentinian fighter was part of Team Werdum on TUF: Latin America back in 2014. Though defeated on the show, Cannetti (8-4) was given the nod to join the UFC, making his debut at UFC 180 later that year in a loss to Henry Briones. Cannetti has traded wins and losses since, with an overall octagon record of 2-3.
Coming off a loss in his octagon debut against Heili Alateng at UFC Shenzhen, Danaa Batgerel (6-2) can still be considered a prospect, albeit an uncertain one. Having fought the entirety of his career in Asia (with stops in Russia, China, and Hong Kong among other locales), he’ll be making his U.S. debut against Cannetti.
UFC 248 takes place March 7, 2020 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. A strawweight title fight is expected to feature on the card, as Joanna Jedrzejczyk will take on current champ Weili Zhang. Thursday’s announcement of Cannetti vs. Batgerel lists that as the show’s co-main event.
