Rob Font finally has a fight, as he’ll face Ricky Simon in bantamweight action at UFC Washington this December.
UFC on ESPN 7 in America’s capital continues to grow. On Tuesday, The Washington Post was first to report that bantamweights Ricky Simon and Rob Font had been matched up on the card. It’s a welcome development for Font especially, who despite being healthy has struggled to find a fight. UFC Washington, however, appears to have remedied that.
Font (16–4) last competed at UFC Milwaukee against Sergio Pettis (who recently departed the UFC in favor of Bellator MMA). That was December 2018. Font has not fought since. After defeating Pettis via unanimous decision, he saw bouts with John Lineker and Cody Stamann fall through after his opponents withdrew.
At 6-3 in the UFC to date, Font has picked up notable wins over Pettis, Matt Schnell, Thomas Almeida since his debut with the promotion in 2014.
Simon (15-2) won his first three fights in the UFC, before running up against Hall of Fame legend Urijah Faber earlier this year. He’ll be looking to bounce back after suffering just the second defeat of his career when Faber finished him early at UFC Sacramento.
UFC Washington (UFC on ESPN 7) takes place December 7, 2019 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
