Daniel Pineda served up the first loss of Movlid Khaibulaev’s career in quarterfinal action at PFL 8 2019.

Movlid Khaibulaev, he of the vicious flying knees, was facing Daniel Pineda in the third featherweight quarterfinal at PFL 8 2019 on Thursday night. The fight went down at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, with the winner of the two-round fight moving on to semifinal action later the same night.

Entering the fight, Khaibulaev represented the only undefeated featherweight in the PFL post-season. He didn’t stay undefeated for long. Pineda, who had made the playoffs thanks to a walkover win, fired an early kick, spinning around in the process. However, the first real exchange was also the last. Pineda landed a kick that took his opponent’s legs out. With Khaibulaev slipping, an uppercut missed, but a hook connected hard. Pineda then began unloading some heavy bombs, tagging Khaibulaev with an uppercut and other strikes. While Khaibulaev still had a bit of life left in him, the ref had seen enough, moving in to wave it off.

Pineda would move on to face the winner of Jeremy Kennedy and Laurentino later in the night.

Official Result: Daniel Pineda def. Movlid Khaibulaev by knockout, Round 1, 0:29
