Alessio Sakara bounced back Saturday with a quick, punishing TKO win over the out-matched Canaan Grigsby at Bellator Milan.
Former UFC fighter and Italian favorite Alessio Sakara was on home soil again Saturday night. Fighting 39-year old Canaan Grigsby, who had not competed in two years and was coming off a pair of losses, Sakara was a heavy favorite entering the fight. The action went down at Bellator Milan, which aired prior to Bellator 230 Saturday (the latter coming via tape delay).
The light heavyweight scrap opened with a onslaught by Sakara, who completely overwhelmed the out-matched Grigsby. Sakara landed punch after punch as Grigsby covered up, and soon enough, Alessio Sakara was celebrating the win, which took less than thirty seconds to secure. Grigsby threw all of five strikes in the bout, including a fight-opening kick. Sakara, meanwhile, landed right hand after thunderous right hand. The final blow went to the body, which sent Grigsby crumpling to his knees.
A bounce-back win for Sakara, who fell to Kent Kauppinen in his last outing, back in December 2018 at Bellator 211. It will be hard to gauge how far Sakara has really progressed, given his Bellator Milan opponent’s down time and heavy underdog status. But expect Saraka to continue to be a fixture whenever the promotion heads to Italy.
Official Result: Alessio Sakara def. Canaan Grigsby by TKO (punches), Round 1, 0:23
