Russia’s ‘Drago,’ Alexander Volkov, will return to face the Rocky-loving Brazilian Junior Dos Santos at UFC Moscow this November.
An interesting heavyweight showdown has been booked for UFC Moscow later this year. On Saturday, MMA DNA was first to report word of Junior Dos Santos facing off against Alexander Volkov at the November event. Shortly thereafter, Volkov confirmed the fight, which pits the #3 and #6 ranked heavyweights against one another.
Dos Santos (21-6), a former UFC heavyweight champion, is coming off a loss to Francis Ngannou which halted the momentum he’d built up over the course of a three-fight win streak. Prior to his first round TKO defeat at the hands of ‘The Predator’ at UFC on ESPN 3, Junior had picked up wins over Blagoy Ivanov, Tai Tuivasa, and Derrick Lewis.
Volkov, meanwhile, was supposed to fight Alistair Overeem earlier this year in St. Petersburg. However, he was forced out of the fight, and replaced by Aleksei Oleinik. As a result, ‘Drago’ has not fought since a loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC 229 last October. That comeback win for Lewis earned him a title shot against Daniel Cormier the next month, while ‘Drago’ was forced to go back to the drawing board.
UFC Moscow (UFC Fight Night 163 / UFC on ESPN+ 21) takes place November 9, 2019 at the CSKA Arena in Moscow, Russia.
