Carlos Condit might just get that elusive win in December when he faces Mickey Gall at UFC DC.
The Washington Post’s Gene Wang first reported Carlos Condit’s return at UFC DC.
Carlos Condit has hit an incredibly rough patch in his career and has been flirting with retirement. However, Mickey Gall is a step down from Condit’s recent opponents, which include Michael Chiesa, Demian Maia, and Neil Magny. This is still a tough matchup for Condit, though, as he has struggled with grapplers, which is where Gall specializes.
Carlos Condit was a fan-favorite at his peak, starting his UFC career at 5-2 with four post-fight bonuses. That run included incredible knockout victories over Rory MacDonald, Dong Hyun Kim, and Dan Hardy, as well as an interim title victory against Nick Diaz. The streak culminated with a title shot against Georges St-Pierre, who defeated him in a Fight of the Night effort. Condit came very close to defeating GSP, knocking him down with a head kick. Since the GSP loss, Condit is 2-7, losing in his last five appearances.
Mickey Gall is a young fighter who’s raised his profile with targeted callouts. This time, he called for a rematch with Diego Sanchez, but will get a bigger fight in the form of Condit. Gall got his shot at the UFC by calling out CM Punk when he was just 1-0. After winning in his Octagon debut, Gall shut down Punk and finished him in the first round. Since then, he’s 3-2 with his most notable win coming against Sage Northcutt. Most recently, he scraped by Salim Touahri in a short notice bout.
UFC DC is headlined by a heavyweight battle between rising contender Walt Harris and veteran Alistair Overeem. The card will take place in the Capital One Arena in the nation’s capital on December 7, and will be broadcast on ESPN.
