It’s not a matter of if, but when the title fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington would be reported. UFC 244 will be the host of the bout inside Madison Square Garden.
Combate first reported the addition of Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington to UFC 244.
They have been far and away the top two welterweights in the promotion for quite some time. Now, Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington will finally settle the score in November inside The World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. According to Combate, this will not be the main event so expect an even bigger bout to land in New York City.
Kamaru Usman has not fought since dominating then-champion Tyron Woodley in March, as he was dealing with injuries following the fight. Usman is undefeated in 10 Octagon appearances, and has not lost in his last 14 bouts. Dominance is the name of the game for the Nigerian-born fighter, who has arguably not lost a round in his UFC career.
Colby Covington has been in line for a title shot since last summer after winning the interim title against Rafael dos Anjos. However, an eye injury kept him out of a title fight with Tyron Woodley, allowing Usman to swoop in and become champion. Covington is coming off an utterly dominant win over Robbie Lawler, in which he threw over 500 strikes.
UFC 244 will go down on November 2 from Madison Square Garden in New York City. In addition to the title fight above, the fights reported for the card are as follows:
- Corey Anderson vs. Johnny Walker
- Derrick Lewis vs. Blagoy Ivanov
- Kaitlyn Chookagian vs. Jennifer Maia
- Edmen Shahbazyan vs. Krzysztof Jotko
The bout everyone wants to see in the main event is Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal, so stay tuned to see if the UFC grants that wish.
