Bellator MMA was back in action, back in Connecticut, and back to pairing up Matt Mitrione and Sergei Kharitonov on Saturday night. Let’s hope Bellator 225 goes better than their first encounter, which ended with a Mitrione low blow, and Kharitonov writhing in pain on the ground. Just seconds into the fight.
Main event aside, big things were brewing at Bellator 225 on Saturday night. Four heavyweight bouts, including names like Tim Johnson, Vitaly Minakov, Tyrell Fortune, and of course the main event. A stacked preliminary card. The promotional debut of Nick Newell. The return of Austin Vanderford.
One fight day change did occur, as Tim Johnson was pulled from the prelims to replace Javy Ayala in the co-main event against former champion Vitaly Minakov. As a result, Azunna Anyanwu, Johnson’s original opponent, was removed from the card and will be scheduled for a later date.
