The latest addition to UFC DC sees strawweights Cortney Casey and Virna Jandiroba set to collide.
The UFC’s trip to Washington, D.C. this December had yet another fight added Wednesday. After gaining a couple of heavyweight scraps in Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris and Stefan Struve vs. Ben Rothwell, it’s the women’s time to shine. Now added to UFC DC are Cortney Casey and Virna Jandiroba, who will face off in strawweight action. Jandiroba confirmed the news herself on social media.
Casey, 32, has struggled to find her footing in the UFC. 8-7 overall as a pro, ‘Cast Iron’ is 4-6 in the big show. That said, she has been on the wrong end of some questionable decisions, and will enter UFC DC at 1-1 in her past two fights. That includes a split decision win over ex-Invicta FC champ Angela Hill, and a unanimous decision loss to Cynthia Calvillo most recently.
Virna Jandiroba (14-1), meanwhile, is herself a former Invicta FC strawweight champion. After defending the belt against Janaisa Morandin in September of last year, she jumped to the UFC, only to come up short against Carla Esparza in her debut.
Which means both fighters will be looking to bounce back in Washington. UFC DC (UFC on ESPN 7) takes place December 7, 2019 at the Capital One Area in Washington, D.C.
