UFC Boston now has its co-main event as rising featherweight contenders Zabit Magomedsharipov and Calvin Kattar will square off.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first reported the co-main event for UFC Boston of Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Calvin Kattar.
Calvin Kattar and Zabit Magomedsharipov are two of the more promising young featherweights around. It’s been a challenge to find a suitable opponent for Magomedsharipov, but he finally has a dance partner in Kattar, who was desperate to fight in Boston.
Zabit Magomedsharipov has been beyond impressive since joining the UFC in 2017 as the ACB featherweight champion. While his three stoppages in the Octagon have been of the submission variety, the Dagestani fighter wows fans with diverse spinning attacks on the feet. His grappling his top-notch though, submitting Brandon Davis with a rare Suloev stretch submission last September. He is coming off a decision victory over longtime veteran Jeremy Stephens.
Calvin Kattar was born and raised in Massachusetts, so the opportunity to fight in the TD Garden was of the utmost importance to him. Kattar is 4-1 in the Octagon thus far, with great knockouts against Shane Burgos and Ricardo Lamas. The lone loss was a tough fight against top-10 featherweight Renato Moicano. Overall, Kattar is 20-3 with nine knockouts and three submissions.
UFC Boston goes down on October 18 from the TD Garden in Massachusetts. While there are only three fights linked to the card thus far, it’s shaping up to be a banger. In addition to a light heavyweight main event between Chris Weidman and Dominick Reyes, aggressive flyweight contenders Maycee Barber and Gillian Robertson will cross paths.
