Johnny Walker will return from injury against Corey Anderson this November at UFC 244 in New York City.
Johnny Walker said he’d be willing to fight fellow light heavyweight Corey Anderson, and it seems he’s staying true to his word. ESPN was first to report that Brazil’s Walker has been paired up with Anderson at the UFC’s return to New York City, UFC 244 in November.
Anderson recently turned heads by confronting Jon Jones at a promotional appearance. Both men are in the title picture, but it’s unlikely either is directly next in line for champ Jones. So a match-up between the surging Walker, and TUF-winner Anderson certainly makes sense.
Walker (17–3) has been out of action since UFC 235 in March, after injuring himself in his post-fight celebration. He’s 3-0 in the UFC thus far, with wins over Khalil Rountree Jr., Justin Ledet, and Misha Cirkunov, all via KO/TKO. Winning all three within a six month span, each fight earned the Brazilian a Performance of the Night bonus. Including fights prior to his UFC stint, Walker has won nine straight.
Corey Anderson (12–4) will also enter UFC 244 with three straight wins in the promotion. Unlike Walker, however, he’s been unable to find a finish in that stretch. Since winning The Ultimate Fighter 19 at light heavyweight in 2014, Anderson has had two three-fight win streaks, and is 9-4 in the promotion.
UFC 244 takes place November 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
