Nasrat Haqparast came up with a big win over Joaquim Silva in a battle of prospects at UFC Newark.
Joaquim Silva and Nasrat Haqparast were both interesting fighters at lightweight going into their fight at UFC Newark. Silva made his UFC debut in 2015 and has gone 4-1 in his stint. He has notable wins over Jared Gordon, Reza Madadi, and Andrew Holbrook. That win over Gordon was his last fight, in December of last year.
Haqparast, on the other hand, is 2-1 in the Octagon. Debuting against a tough Marcin Held in 2017, however, he would follow up with dominating wins over Marc Diakiese and Thibault Gouti. The 23-year-old is a bright prospect in a talent heavy lightweight division.
Both fighters featured a kick-heavy strategy in the first round. With Silva and Haqparast throwing many kicks to the body, and upstairs. Haqparast began throwing combinations later in the round after a slow start, landing a number of hooks upstairs while Silva was mostly just throwing one shot at a time. As a close round comes to a close, it’s still anyone’s fight for the taking.
Haqparast came forward in the beginning of the second round and landed a clean left hand, and that was a sign of things to come. A few seconds later Haqparast landed another big clean left hand that dropped Silva, and Silva crumpled to the ground. After a few follow-up shots, Haqparast had the victory and his first UFC finish.

Haqparast is only 23 years old and is already defeating UFC level talent. Now imagine how good he’ll be in a few years. It looks like has a very bright future indeed.
