Claudio Silva runs through newcomer Cole Williams with a first-round stoppage at UFC Newark and moves to 5-0 in the UFC Octagon.
Claudio Silva has not lost since his pro debut in November 2007. After eight finishes in his next nine fights, Silva signed with the UFC in 2014. Silva went 2-0 including a win over Leon Edwards. However, he then spent nearly four years on the shelf before returning with a Performance of the Night submission over Nordine Taleb in 2018. He followed that up with a controversial armbar finish of Danny Roberts in March.
Cole Williams will be making his promotional debut at UFC Newark after going 11-1 on the regional circuit. He has not lost since 2009 in a fight against UFC veteran Eric Wisely. He’s won nine straight fights since then. Overall, of his 11 victories, Williams has four knockouts and four submissions. Williams also missed weight for his debut and will sacrifice part of his purse to Silva.
Round 1
Easy work for Claudio Silva, getting it done in the first round. He did show some good kicks and good bodywork before getting the trip, taking Williams down. Silva, from there, immediately took the back and went to work. Williams was fighting the wrist avoiding the choke. Silva, though, was landing big strikes to the side of the head and would soon find the opening, getting the choke and forcing the tap. It was the third-submission win for Silva, who is looking excellent since returning from his multi-year layoff.
