UFC Newark is official, with all fighters weighing in Friday for tomorrow’s show on ESPN.
Newark, NJ — Despite a couple of missteps at the scale, UFC Newark is official. On Friday all fighters weighed in for the ESPN event. Cole Williams (176lbs) and Dong Hyun Ma (158lbs) came in heavy for their welterweight and lightweight fights, respectively. Williams will forfeit 30% of his purse, while Ma will cough up 20%. Aside from that, everything went off without a hitch.
Most importantly, the main event showdown between Robbie Lawler and Colby Covington is official. The pair faced off after the weigh-ins, along with the rest of the card – check out the video above. Lawler remained stone-faced throughout, not a hint of emotion showing.
Mickey Gall got perhaps the biggest cheer of the morning, as the local kid fighting at home in the UFC for the first time. Gall will be looking to bounce back from a loss to Diego Sanchez when he takes on Salim Touahri this Saturday.
Weigh-in highlights can be found in the video below. UFC Newark (UFC on ESPN 5) goes down at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, August 3. The preliminary card kicks off at 12PM ET, with the entire event airing live on ESPN.
