The UFC Newark (UFC on ESPN 5) official weigh-in is in the books, with all but one fighter making weight for the New Jersey card.
Newark, NJ — With no ceremonial weigh-in planned for UFC Newark, all eyes were on the official weigh-in Friday morning. With Colby Covington and Robbie Lawler both weighing in successfully for their welterweight main event, the card’s biggest fight was a go. And while a number of fighters needed the towel, everyone made weight save for Dong Hyun Ma, who came in a couple pounds over the lightweight limit, and Cole Williams.
The card was all about Lawler and Covington, however. The chaos surrounding Covington, whose antics are well known to MMA fans, would likely continue Saturday, with Donald Trump Jr. rumored to be in attendance at the Prudential Center in Newark. But Friday morning was a look at the core of each fighter. From Lauren Murphy to Cole Williams, any number looked drawn. But they all faced off one more time in advance of the show.
