Following the second straight knockout loss suffered by Luke Rockhold, UFC President Dana White would like to see the fighter call it a career.
Dana White might just have “the talk” with Diego Sanchez at some point in the near future. But following UFC 239, there’s another fighter he wants to see hang up the gloves: Luke Rockhold.
White revealed his thoughts on the former UFC middleweight champion at the post-fight press conference at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. Rockhold was knocked out by Jan Blachowicz at the UFC 239.
“I think Luke Rockhold should talk about hanging it up,” White told reporters in attendance, including Cageside Press. “He broke his jaw tonight. So that’s the second broken jaw, he’s been knocked out viciously a few times here.”
Beyond that, his “shin is all banged up, he had to have shin graft and all kids of stuff. He’s had a good career, he’s been a great fighter, I’d like to see him hang it up.”
Besides which, Rockhold doesn’t actually need to fight. “He’s got another career that he’s actually doing well at,” White pointed out. “It’s not like he’s like— Everybody’s a f*cking model. I’m a model, I’m a model. That guy’s actually really modeling for Ralph Lauren. So good for him.”
Time will tell where Rockhold (16–5) goes from here. He has fought just once a year over the last four years, and is 1-3 across that stretch. The former Strikeforce champion’s only win in that span was against David Branch in September 2017.
