Paul Daley got back in the win column and looked like his old self with a strong decision victory at Bellator 223.
Paul Daley got off to a great start in his Bellator career, winning five of six fights (one kickboxing) to earn a title shot against Rory MacDonald. Daley was defeated soundly, and has since gone 1-2, losing in his last two appearances.
Erick Silva will be looking for his first win with the promotion at Bellator 223. Silva went 7-8 in the UFC but seemed to always find himself in exciting fights.
Erick Silva advanced with several kicks early before landing a solid trip takedown into side control to start the fight. Paul Daley sat comfortably against the cage, until Silva took his back with nearly a minute left. Daley was able to survive to the final bell.
Daley took the center of the cage quickly and landed a slick combination that rocked Silva. Daley came in with an uppercut and knocked Silva down. The Englishman pursued a finish, but couldn’t land the big shot. He threw a flying front kick to the face that knocked Silva down, but the Brazilian popped back up. Silva shot for a takedown but Daley resisted. Silva shot for another and was rocked, slowly moving to his back. Daley jumped into guard and remained there for the rest of the round.
The fighters stayed at jabbing range in the final round. Daley was the advancing fighter, but Silva was able to take him down on his second attempt. The final round was won by Silva, but considering the damage sustained by Silva earlier, this was Daley’s fight.
