And now for some positive news. UFC strawweight Mackenzie Dern has announced via Instagram that she has given birth to a baby girl, Moa.
UFC fighter Mackenzie Dern is officially a mom. Dern premiered her baby girl to the world this week on social media. Both mother and daughter are doing well, as you can see in the accompanying photo.
“Our daughter, Moa, is here! June 9th at 8:25pm! A little late, stubborn, American/Brazilian, beautiful, perfect, God’s gift and our family’s biggest pride!,” Dern wrote. “Delivery was smooth and I had the most important people by my side! Welcome here my baby girl! We love you so much!”
Dern last fought in May of 2018, picking up her second consecutive win in the UFC, against Amanda Cooper. She won the fight via rear-naked choke. That improved Dern’s record to 7-0, but also added some controversy, as Dern completely blew the strawweight limit, weighing in at 123lbs. Her inaugural UFC bout came against Ashley Yoder, a split decision with no weight issues.
No word on what daughter Moa weighed in at upon arrival.
Previously competing for LFA and Invicta FC, Dern’s UFC career was eagerly anticipated, as she is also a standout BJJ practitioner who won gold at the ADCC World Championship, World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, and Abu Dhabi World Cup, all in 2015. She also picked up gold at the 2016 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
Our best wishes to mother and daughter.
