Lightweight action at UFC Stockholm saw Christos Giagos earn a unanimous decision over ‘The Bosnian Bomber’ Damir Hadzovic.
In main card action at UFC Stockholm on Saturday, lightweights collided when Christos Giagos took on Damir Hadzovic. Both men were looking to put together a modest win streak, entering the night off earlier victories.
In the end it was ‘The Spartan’ Giagos who had his hand raised.
The pair circled early, trading leg kicks. Giagos launched a powerful overhand that was at least partially blocked. Hdzovic walked his opponent down, forcing him to circle out by the fence. Not a lot of combinations early, but rather single strikes. Giagos then landed a heavy takedown, almost directly into side control. A second takedown would come later in the round, allowed Giagos to land some elbows, before they got back to the feet and traded to end the frame.
Round two saw the level change come a minute in, and once against Christos Giagos had the fight to the ground. A scramble as Giagos looked for the neck, and Hadzovic was back to the feet. Hadzovic, on the feet, continued to come forward, but once again he found himself taken down. While he would escape up, Hadzovic was going to need to find a way to stay there. He was tiring from the takedowns, although Giagos for his part was starting to slow as well, and Hadzovic easily shrugged off a single-leg attempt. He’d eventually get the fight down himself, but probably too late to claim the round.
Round three saw Hadzovic moving forward almost immediately, throwing out a front kick. However again, a minute in, Hadzovic was planted on his back. Later in the round, however, he’d end up on top, but Giagos opted to stall the action, knowing he was likely up two rounds as the fight came to a close.
Christos Giagos def. Damir Hadzovic by unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-28)
