Undefeated prospect Deron Winn makes his UFC debut at UFC Greenville, faces Brazilian Markus Perez in a middleweight clash.
Undefeated prospect Deron Winn will be making his highly anticipated UFC debut in June 22nd, when he faces Brazilian veteran Markus Perez in Greenville, South Carolina. Combate first reported the news.
Winn (5-0) trains out of San Jose, California at American Kickboxing Academy alongside UFC champions Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Winn most recently defeated Tom Lawlor in a light heavyweight contest at Golden Boy MMA 1: Liddell vs. Ortiz 3. Out of those who competed on the show, Winn was the clear star. He signed with the UFC weeks after the biggest win of his career. Standing at just 5’5” tall, Winn decided to drop down to middleweight where he would face smaller guys. However, he will still be giving up an eight-inch advantage to Perez for this bout.
Perez (11-2) is also coming in on steady momentum for this bout. Most recently, the Brazilian took out previously undefeated LFA middleweight champion Anthony Hernandez in Hernandez’s promotional debut at UFC Fortaleza. Perez landed a vicious body kick which stunned Hernandez, and then submitted the previously undefeated American with an Anaconda choke just over a minute into the second round. In his Octagon career, Perez is 2-2, losing to Eryk Anders and Andrew Sanchez via unanimous decision respectively. Both of his Octagon wins have been via submission in his home country of Brazil, as he also submitted James Bochnovic at UFC 224 via rear-naked choke. Perez also holds a victory over prospect Ian Heinisch at LFA 22, which was for the vacant middleweight title.
UFC Greenville takes place June 22 live from the Avon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. At this time, there is no main event for the card. The current bout order is as follows:
- Andrea Lee vs. Montana De La Rosa
- Allen Crowder vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik
- Ashley Yoder vs. Syuri Kondo
- Bevon Lewis vs. Darren Stewart
- Markus Perez vs. Deron Winn
