Angela Hill will make a quick turnaround when she gets back in the octagon at UFC Fort Lauderdale.
Angela Hill, a.k.a. ‘Overkill’ was last seen at UFC Nashville last month, where she fell via submission to Canada’s Randa Markos. Not wanting to dwell on the misfire, Hill (8–6) will get right back in the mix against Jodie Esquibel at UFC Fort Lauderdale. UFC officials recently announced the booking, which has Hill taking the place of Jessica Penne. Penne fell out of the bout due to undisclosed medical issues.
Prior to the Markos fight, Hill had lost to Cortney Casey, following a win against Maryna Moroz. Since returning to the UFC in 2017 after a stint in Invicta FC that saw her win their strawweight title, Hill has gone 2-4 across six fights.
That makes UFC Fort Lauderdale (UFC Fight Night 150) a must win situation for the Maryland native.
Esquibel (6-4) has also lost two straight, against Jessica Aguilar and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. An Invicta FC veteran herself, she’s still looking for her first victory under the UFC banner. She had been expected to face Penne at UFC on ESPN 1, but an injury to Penne postponed the fight. Lightning struck twice it seems, and she’ll now face Hill instead.
UFC Fort Lauderdale is topped by a middleweight clash between Jacare Souza and Jack Hermansson, himself filling in for Yoel Romero, who took ill (pneumonia) during his training camp. The event takes place at the BB&T Center on April 27.
