Ryan Scope and Derek Campos collide in the co-main event of Bellator: Birmingham this May.
On Tuesday, Bellator MMA officials announced via press release that Bellator: Birmingham had secured its main event. Going down just prior to the main event scrap between Brent Primus and Tim Wilde will be fellow lightweights Derek Campos and Ryan Scope. The event is the second in Bellator’s newly launched European series.
Scope (10-2), a.k.a. ‘Big Baby,’ fights out of Sunderland, U.K. and will have the home court advantage in the fight. Scope was viewed as something of a prospect for Bellator, but fell to Patricky Freire in his debut with the promotion at Bellator: Newcastle in February. The road to success isn’t getting any easier with Campos, however.
Derek Campos (19-8) is a longtime member of the Bellator roster with the promotion since 2012. He made his debut with a loss to Rich Clemnti at Bellator 70, but after a couple of fights outside the company, he returned with a win over Brandon Girtz the following year. Then never looked back. He holds notable wins over Girtz (x2), Derek Anderson, and Melvin Guillard.
Campos, however, will enter the fight with Ryan Scope on a two fight skid. He’s dropped bouts to Patricky Freire and most recently Sam Sicilia.
Bellator: Birmingham takes place at the Resorts Wild Arena in Birmingham, England on May 4.
