Josh Emmett returns to face Michael Johnson at UFC Philadelphia (UFC on ESPN 2) next month.
UFC Philadelphia had yet another fight added Tuesday. The fight, recently added to the event page on ESPN, marks the return of Josh Emmett to the octagon after suffering a viscous knockout and a crushed orbital from Jeremy Stephens in February of last year. He is set to face Michael Johnson, who has gone 2-1 since his move to featherweight.
Josh Emmett was riding high after a huge KO of Ricardo Lamas, staking his claim as a contender in the featherweight division. That was brought to a complete stop upon being brutally knocked out by Jeremy Stephens, resulting in a myriad of injuries. A broken orbital, orbital wall, cheek bone, nasal bone, and a few other fractures kept Emmett out for the past year.
Michael Johnson was on a two fight win streak and is 2-1 since moving to the 145lb division. In his last bout, he took on Artem Lobov on short notice. Although he missed weight for the fight, Lobov was thankful for Johnson stepping up on short notice. Proving that, Lobov admirably gave back the 20% of Johnson’s purse given to him by the athletic commission.
Both Johnson and Emmett are looking to rise to the top of an already stacked 145lb division. With so many good match-ups, both fighters will get interesting and exciting fights win or lose.
