With a big win at EBI’s Combat Jiu-Jitsu Fight Night 1 over UFC alum Brandon Moreno, Richard Alarcon is looking ahead to more action in the budding discipline.
Los Angeles, CA — The Eddie Bravo Invitational’s Combat Jiu-Jitsu Fight Night 1 saw a promising 4-man tournament fall apart at the last minute. Gone were names like Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett. Yet it still had plenty of action, including a three-round, eight man bantamweight tournament. At the end of the night, one man walked away with the win: Richard ‘Red’ Alarcon. Alarcon pulled off two submission finishes before winning the tournament against UFC fighter Brandon Moreno, via the fastest escape time.
Following his big win, Alarcon told Cageside Press that the key was to “make it a scrap. Do my own thing. I know his style was very similar to mine, I just had to impose my will and do my thing.”
Alarcon has competed in MMA, putting up a 2-1 record as a pro. That said, there was no added satisfaction with Moreno being a UFC fighter. “It wasn’t so much the UFC, it’s just the fact that I had a game opponent. He showed a lot of heart. For me that’s all that matters. I’m down for any fight like that.”
Moving forward in CJJ, Alarcon expects to compete again on March 21. “You’ll definitely see me there.” He won’t be back in the cage this year, however. “I’m just sticking to jiu-jitsu right now. The work schedule’s always busy, gotta make money, gotta keep the family business going. So I’ll just stick to jiu-jitsu for right now.”
