Kevin Belingon vs. Bibiano Fernandes III joins ONE Championship’s stacked A New Era card in Tokyo, Japan this March.
ONE Championship’s debut in Japan continues to grow, and the most recent addition is a fourth title fight. A New Era, which takes place in March, will now see bantamweight champ Kevin Belingon take on former champ Bibiano Fernandes. That fight joins the main event lightweight championship tilt between Eduard Folayang and Shinya Aoki, plus atomweight star Angela Lee moving up to strawweight to challenge Xiong Jing Nan for the title there. Not to mention Aung La N Sang defending his middleweight title against Ken Hasegawa for the second time.
All that, plus the debut of Eddie Alvarez and Demetrious Johnson in ONE Championship. There’s really no arguing the quality of the card.
“As promised when I first announced the initial bouts for ONE: A New Era in December, I am excited to present the trilogy fight between current ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin Belingon and former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano Fernandes for March 31 in Tokyo!,” ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong wrote on Facebook on Sunday, announcing the news.
Belingon (20-5) is in the midst of a seven fight win streak. He claimed the interim title after defeating Martin Nguyen, then captured the undisputed crown against Fernandes in November at Heart of a Lion. The Brazilian Fernandes (22-4) will now get a chance to avenge that loss. It’s also the rubber match of their trilogy, with Fernandes winning the first fight in 2016.
ONE Championship: A New Era takes place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 2019.
