With Alex Gorgees forced off the UFC 234 card, Callan Potter is expected to step in on short notice against Jalin Turner next month.
UFC 234 is hitting Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on Saturday, February 9, 2018. The card is headlined by current middleweight champion Robert Whittaker who will take on Kelvin Gastelum. Over the past few days, the event has had a bit of a shake-up, with a couple of fights falling through. Sam Alvey has joined the card, replacing Ryan Spann against Jim Crute. And now, Callan Potter is on board against Jalin Turner.
The card has been shaping up with a few big fights and some rising future contenders. Among the latter, Alex Gorgees (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was set to take on Jalin Turner (7-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC). Unfortunately, Gorgees had to pull out of the fight. Sources close to the situation have now confirmed to Cageside Press that Callan Potter (17-7 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is expected to step in on short notice and take on Turner.
Turner made his debut against a contender in Vicente Luque at UFC 229. The night didn’t go as planned for Turner, but he did take the fight at welterweight despite mainly fighting at lightweight.
Callan Potter is 9-1 in his last ten bouts with that sole loss coming to former Bellator and UFC veteran Marcin Held. The 34-year-old has won multiple titles on the Australian scene and has put his time in on the regional circuit.
Both lightweights have a combined twenty-three finishes with sixteen ending in the first round. Both are looking to get their first win inside the octagon, which gives this fight the potential for fireworks.
