Fighters competing in Los Angeles at UFC 232 this weekend will have an extra hour to weigh in, per CSAC executive Andy Foster.
Thanks to the last minute change of locale for UFC 232, the California State Athletic Commission has extended the weigh-in window for the event. The card, of course, was shifted from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to The Forum in Los Angeles less than a week before the event. That’s due to Jon Jones “atypical” drug test result announced over the weekend. To give fighters a little breathing room, however, the CSAC has now deemed that those competing on the card will get an extra hour to weigh in. Normally, fighters are given two hours to successfully hit the scales.
However on Friday, UFC 232 fighters will have a three-hour window from 9AM til noon to hit the mark. MMA Fighting cited CSAC executive officer Andy Foster in reporting the news.
Athletes on Saturday’s card, in many cases, did not find out about the move until after it was announced publicly. Many were already on route to Vegas, if not already in town. How much of a difference the extended weigh-in will make remains to be seen, but it’s a nice gesture to fighters caught in the crossfire after Jones’ drug test issues.
UFC 232 takes place Saturday, December 29 at The Forum in Los Angeles.
