Watching his own highlight reel, Roufusport fighter Sergio Pettis realized he wanted to do a little more. Get that big knockout. He’ll have a chance against Rob Font at UFC Milwaukee this weekend.
Milwaukee, WI — Rousfusport product Sergio Pettis is returning to bantamweight at UFC Milwaukee (UFC on FOX 31) on Saturday. He’s also stepping into the octagon in his own back yard. And while the comforts of home don’t worry him (plus, he can keep an eye on his misbehaving dog), there’s some serious work ahead against Rob Font at the Fiserv Forum this weekend.
Pettis is motivated in plenty of ways for the fight. For starters, “I want to get a knockout,” he told media members including Cageside Press on Thursday in Milwaukee. “I want to get like a big knockout, not just these decision wins. I want to end someone and look over top of them and be like ‘yup, got ’em!'”
Looking to build his highlight reel, in other words. Pettis admitted that “I was watching my highlight reel recently, I’m like ‘I need to do more.’ I want to do more. This is the perfect fight to do it, the perfect weight class to do it at.” The added weight may very well lend itself to more finishes, despite the success Pettis found as a flyweight.
Still, on finishing, “I visualize it,” Pettis revealed. “I’ve seen myself finishing people, I’ve seen myself submitting people, I know I’m capable of doing it. Now I just got to believe in myself when I go out there.”
He’s looking to make something happen at UFC Milwaukee, which should elate the local crowd if it does end the way Pettis hopes. Pettis also has plenty of teammates on the card Saturday, which is another motivating factor. Plus, he doesn’t see any way this fight ends in a boring decision.
“I’m not going to lose a boring decision,” he promised. “Rob’s got a good talking game, he’s going to bully me and all this stuff. He hasn’t felt me yet. He doesn’t know what I’m capable of doing. What Sergio Pettis is coming out this Saturday.”
Sergio Pettis faces Rob Font on the main card of UFC Milwaukee (UFC on FOX 31) on Saturday, December 15 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The event airs live on FOX (CTV2 in Canada). Televised prelims can be found on Fox Sports 1/TSN, and UFC Fight Pass.
