An impressive performance at UFC Beijing sees Weili Zhang booked into a key fight with Tecia Torres at UFC 235.
The UFC didn’t take long to book Weili Zhang after her impressive showing at UFC Beijing earlier this month. On Thursday, the promotion announced via social media that China’s Zhang would get a very big step up in a competition at UFC 235 next year. That step up comes in the form of a Tiny Tornado: Tecia Torres.

Zhang (18-1), as mentioned, fought at UFC Beijing just last weekend, submitting Jessica Aguilar in one of the most impressive performances on the card. The arm-bar finish was Zhang’s second win in the UFC. Despite her recent struggles, Aguilar was once considered one of the best strawweights in the world — a signature victory for Weili Zhang in other words.
Tecia Torres (10-3) will be looking to bounce back against Zhang, and avoid slipping into a three fight losing streak. Torres has lost two straight, to top contender Jessica Andrade, and former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The latter came in July, at UFC on FOX 30 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Both fights ended in unanimous decisions for her opponents.
UFC 235 takes place March 2 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. No other fights have been officially announced for the card, though Daniel Cormier’s retirement bout has long been rumored for the event. However, whether it’s against former heavyweight champion and WWE star Brock Lesnar remains to be seen.
