With a champion crowned and a title challenger emerging, Invicta FC 32 turned out to be a key event for the all-female fighting promotion.
Invicta FC 32 went down Friday in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and crowned a new champion in the main event. Felicia Spencer battled it out for four rounds with the always tough Pam Sorenson. After getting the fight down early in the first, it was a more back-and-forth affair in the second and third. That is, at least until Spencer took Sorenson down again in the fourth.
That time, she was able to get her arm under Sorenson’s neck, and lock in the rear-naked choke. It was an incredible finish for Spencer, who improved to 6-0 with the win. Just months ago, she wasn’t even thinking title fight. Now, she’s the Invicta FC featherweight champion, following in the footsteps of Cris Cyborg and Megan Anderson.
Spencer wasn’t the only story on the night. Despite missing wieght, Mizuki Inoue, billed as just MIZUKI, get the better of former UFC athlete Viviane Pereira. Though Mizuki missed weight for the fight, it was an impressive performance nonetheless from a fighter who could turn into a star for the promotion.
Julia Avila was clearly the biggest standout outside of the main event, however. Avila stormed out of the gate against Alexa Conners and steamrolled her, earning a TKO finish in the second round. That landed her on the radar of bantamweight champ Sarah Kaufman, who may have finally found a title challenger.
