Shogun Rua will look to bounce back from a crushing loss to Anthony Smith when he takes on Tyson Pedro in enemy territory at UFC Adelaide.
Pride legend and former UFC light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua isn’t ready to call it a day just yet. The battle worn veteran, recently finished by Anthony Smith in the main event of UFC Hamburg, is set to return against Tyson Pedro at UFC Adelaide later this year. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was first to report the news.
Rua (25–11) had a three-fight win streak snapped in the loss to Smith in Hamburg this past July. That streak marked his best stretch in his UFC career. Of course, Shogun made his name in Pride, winning the promotion’s middleweight (205lb) Grand Prix. In doing so, he defeated Rampage Jackson, Little Nog, Alistair Overeem, and Ricardo Arona. The Overeem and Arona fights came on the same night, at PRIDE Final Conflict 2005. Both were first round finishes.
Tyson Pedro (7–2), a native of Sydney, Australia, is 3-2 in his UFC career to date. Starting his tenure in the promotion with back-to-back wins over Khalil Rountree Jr. and and Paul Craig, Pedro then suffered his first career loss against Ilir Latifi. He bounced back against Saparbek Safarov, but was submitted by Ovince St. Preux in June.
UFC Adelaide, numerically UFC Fight Night 142, takes place December 2 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia.
