Rapid fire. Blink of an eye. Lightening quick. There were plenty of ways to describe Alex Oliveira’s knockout of Carlo Pedersoli Jr. at UFC Sao Paulo on Saturday. But any way you looked at it, it was a devastating finish.
UFC Sao Paulo (UFC Fight night 137) went down Saturday from the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil. It was an action-packed evening, with plenty of Brazilian fighters in the win column. The co-main event of the evening featured Alex Oliveira, who was originally scheduled to face Neil Magny. Magny, however, was pulled to headline another Fight Night card in November against Santiago Ponzinibbio. He was replaced by relative UFC newcomer Carlo Pedersoli Jr. instead, who in May made his UFC debut and defeated Breadley Scott at UFC Fight Night 130.
Against a dangerous fighter like Brazil’s Cowboy, the UFC Sao Paulo co-main event promised fireworks. And it delivered just that.
Pedersoli opened with a leg kick and Oliverira answered with a body kick. Pedersoli then threw a kick that Oliveira countered with a short right hand. That right found the mark and dropped Pedersoli. Oliveira pounced and unloaded a flurry of punches on the downed Pedersoli, which forced the ref to jump in and call a stop to the fight. Brutal, with the first punch landing on the temple and more landing behind the ear.
