After months of a rumored match-up between the two, it came to light Wednesday that Kamaru Usman and Rafael Dos Anjos will be the main event of the Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale Card in November.
Kamaru Usman was hoping to step in and fight for the welterweight championship at UFC 228. Serving as a back-up fighter for the main event, he was ready to go in case of injury or weight cutting mishap. However after Darren Till and Tyron Woodley made weight it was clear he wouldn’t be needed. That allowed Usman to turn his sights back toward former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos. The former champion needed time off to recover from a ear injury recently, but according to Brazilian site Combate, he’s good to go for a November showdown with Usman. The fight will take place as the main event of the TUF 28 Finale.
Kamaru Usman (13-1) is a former Ultimate Fighter winner himself, and is currently undefeated in the UFC. Holding wins over the likes of Leon Edwards, Emil Meek and Warlley Alves, Usman officially cemented his place as a top welterweight after dominating Demain Maia this past May.
Rafael Dos Anjos (28-10) hasn’t been seen since his close decision loss to Colby Covington at UFC 225, where he came up short in claiming the UFC’s welterweight interim title. However at 170 pounds the former lightweight champion has gone 3-1, with big wins over Neil Magny, and a dominating win over 170lb former champion Robbie Lawler.
The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale goes down November 30 at the Palms in Las Vegas. Also on the card are the final match-ups of the Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights and Female Featherweights.
