A scary moment from an otherwise thrilling night of fights has led to multiple surgeries for PFL 7 fighter LeRoy Johnson.
PFL 7 was an excellent night of fights from top to bottom on Thursday. The opening fight of the night, however, had a scary finish. LeRoy Johnson was on the wrong end of a knockout knee from Muhammad DeReese. Face planting, he also appeared to hit his head on the cage post as he fell. The combination of the two blows saw him out and rushed to a local hospital from the venue in Atlantic City.
On Friday, Johnson’s manager Daniel Rubenstein provided an update about the fighter’s condition on social media. And it’s a scary one. Johnson apparently required emergency surgery on a slipped vertebrae, and a second procedure for issues stemming from high blood pressure. At some point, he appears to have been transferred to a Philadelphia-based facility, per Rubenstein’s tweet.
The good news is, the fighter has feeling in his arms and legs. The Professional Fighters League, meanwhile, is flying Johnson’s fiance out to be with him.
